Simon Lee – Conductor, Educator and Tenor Lay Clerk
Simon was born and raised in Lancaster and began his musical career as a chorister at Lancaster Priory. He took up the clarinet aged 7 and five years later, the saxophone. He studied music at the University of Leeds; as part of this he spent a year abroad, focussing on solo performance at the University of North Texas, where he sang with the acclaimed A Cappella Choir.
During his time in Leeds he was Choral Scholar at St Anne’s RC Cathedral and founded and directed the award-winning vocal octet, Voctet.
Upon graduation in 2009, Simon moved to Durham to take up a post as Tenor Lay Clerk at the Cathedral, a role he continues today. In 2011 he gained a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Education at Durham University. Currently he teaches classroom music in schools across the North-East, as well as teaching saxophone and clarinet both privately and to students at Durham University.
